Homework 13.9.19

Homework 13.9.19

Friday 13th September 2019

Your Spelling Rule

This week’s words have the suffix –ed on the end of them. To help you, here are some spelling rules to follow:

  • A short vowel sound in the root word indicates a doubling of the consonant eg. chatted
  • Verbs ending in ‘e’ have the ‘e’ removed before adding ‘-ed’ or ‘-ing’ eg. smiled

Your Spelling Words

    • Children chatted at the school gates.
    • I searched for my house keys.
    • The girl smiled at the dentist.
    • His holiday was all planned.
    • They all clapped in collective worship.

(Please note we are currently in the process of assessing each child’s spelling needs and in future weeks, spellings may be more personalised).

Please learn spellings ready for a test on Thursday 19th September. You will be tested only on the word in bold, but it is helpful to learn them in context.

 Handwriting

Please use your handwriting homework book to practise your spellings. Put the short date at the top of the page and then write each of the words above out 5 times in your neatest joined handwriting.

Handwriting due: Thursday 19th September

 Times tables- TT Rockstars

In school next week you will be practising the 5 times tables. The main focus is on increasing your mental recall speed for these times tables facts.

As a way to help you learn the 5 times tables, we would like you to complete the 5 times table multiplication wheels that are stuck in your times tables homework book (small, orange exercise book). Each wheel has the number 5 in the middle, then a circle of numbers to multiply 5 by, put your answers in the outside wheel. Try to do all 6 wheels.

Homework due: Thursday 19th September

You could also practise at home by logging on to TT Rockstars and earning coins for each times table fact you answer correctly.

Reading

You should also ensure you are reading to an adult at home, try to record this in your home school diary at least 3 times a week. Remember 20 reads = a house point!

Home school diaries

Home school diaries should be in school each day as they are often used to share informal messages as well as to record weekly test results and reading with an adult. We would like to remind you to please make sure home school diaries are signed by an adult each week as a way to acknowledge this information is being shared. Teachers will also sign each weekly page on a Friday.
