Building a Bug Hotel

Bug Hotel 2

On Friday 5th May,  we represented Freegrounds Junior School at the Bug Hotel Competition at Wildern School. The competition was designed to raise awareness of biodiversity and encourage wildlife within school grounds. After a school based competition, various
ideas were chosen for our bug hotel and we finally chose Amala’s design as incorporating all the things we wanted to show.

On the day, we were up against stiff competition from other local schools but our Eco team did a fantastic presentation and included lots of research about the creatures who would move into their bug home. We then had the opportunity to actually build the Bug Hotel following our plan.

It looked brilliant when we had finished and we had to problem solve along the way to make it using the materials we had.

At the final judging we came second overall.

Well done Freegrounds Eco Group!

Next half term Amala will be leading the Eco Group as they build her amazing design in our school grounds. You can see her design on display in our main reception area in school.
